Pursuant to Art. 13 GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website, within the meaning of the GDPR, is:
Wilko Bauer, M.A., Rechtsanwalt
Bölkendorfer Str. 36
16278 Angermünde, Germany
Email: contact@hegel.global
Phone: +49 33365-784007
2. Hosting & Server Log Files
This website is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany, on servers located in Germany. Each time this website is accessed, the hosting provider’s server automatically collects and stores information in server log files, which your browser transmits automatically. This typically includes: the requesting device’s IP address, date and time of access, the page requested, browser type and version, operating system, and the referring URL.
This data is processed to ensure the stable and secure operation of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — legitimate interest) and is not merged with other data sources. Log files are retained only for a short period in line with IONOS’s standard hosting practice and are then deleted automatically; the exact retention window is set out in IONOS’s own data-processing terms.
3. Cookies & Analytics
This website does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising cookies, and does not run any tracking or advertising scripts. Comments are disabled site-wide, so no comment cookies are ever set. As a visitor browsing this site without logging in, no cookies are set on your device at all. (Technically necessary session cookies would only ever be set for a logged-in administrator managing the site — never for a regular visitor.)
4. Web Fonts (Google Fonts)
This website currently loads the typefaces “Cormorant Garamond” and “Inter” from Google’s servers (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com). When a page is loaded, your browser connects to Google and your IP address is transmitted to Google LLC (USA) for this purpose. This is done on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in fast, consistent typography). We plan to switch to self-hosting these font files directly from this server, which would remove this external connection entirely; this section will be updated once that change is made.
5. Contact by Email
If you contact us by email — for example to register for the colloquium, submit a paper proposal, or ask about a reading group — we process the personal data you provide (such as your name and email address) solely to respond to your request and, where relevant, to organize your participation. This processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps prior to entering into, or performance of, an arrangement with you) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to inquiries). We delete this correspondence once it is no longer needed for its original purpose, unless statutory retention obligations apply.
6. Video Conferencing (OpenTalk)
The OpenHegel Colloquium and certain reading group sessions take place via OpenTalk, an open-source, GDPR-oriented video conferencing platform provided by a German provider operating servers located in Berlin, Germany. As both the provider and the server location are within Germany, no international data transfer is involved and no additional safeguard (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) is required. When you join a session, data such as your name, email address, audio/video stream, and any chat messages are processed for the duration of the event, based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the arrangement to attend) or, where you have registered voluntarily, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).
7. External Links
This website links to independently operated reading groups, such as grundlinien.de. We have no influence over, and accept no responsibility for, the content or data practices of these external sites. Please refer to their own privacy policies.
8. International Visitors
OpenHegel welcomes participants worldwide. Because the controller is established in Germany, the data protection standards described in this policy — based on the EU General Data Protection Regulation — apply uniformly to all visitors and participants, regardless of where they access this website from. Depending on your country of residence, additional local data protection rights may apply to you; this policy does not limit any such rights.
9. Your Rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- request access to the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR);
- request rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR);
- request erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR);
- request restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR);
- object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR); and
- request data portability (Art. 20 GDPR).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@hegel.global. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; the authority responsible for this controller is the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und für das Recht auf Akteneinsicht Brandenburg (LDA Brandenburg), Stahnsdorfer Damm 77, 14532 Kleinmachnow, Germany — phone +49 33203 356-0, email poststelle@lda.brandenburg.de.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy as the website’s features or applicable law change. The current version always applies; please check back periodically.
